Head of Flight Operations at AirTanker

AirTanker is seeking a highly experienced and motivated aviation professional to join our leadership team as Head of Flight Operations. This pivotal role is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all AirTanker Services’ aircraft. You will lead the Flight Operations department, act as the CAA-approved Nominated Person for Flight Operations, and serve as the deputy to the Accountable Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and implement strategy, policy, and procedures for aircraft operations in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Maintain AirTanker’s Air Operator’s Certificate and Operating Licences.
  • Deputise for the Accountable Manager during periods of absence.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Ground Operations to ensure seamless operational delivery.
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team in shaping business strategy and contributing to the business plan.
  • Manage the Flight Operations budget and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the Flight Operations team.
  • Represent AirTanker in engagements with the MoD, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Voyager Squadron Commanders, the Delivery Duty Holder (DDH), and BALPA.
  • Maintain operational oversight through active flying as an aircraft commander.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • UK ATPL holder with A330 Type Rating.
  • Significant Airbus command experience.
  • Qualified A330 Type Rating Instructor and Examiner.
  • Acceptable to the UK CAA as the Nominated Person for Flight Operations (ORO.AOC.135).
  • In-depth knowledge of UK CAA and MAA regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven experience in regulatory liaison and compliance.
  • Minimum 2 years in a senior airline management role and 5 years of relevant aviation experience.
  • Strong understanding of aviation safety management systems and safe operating practices.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and cross-functional teams.
