Job Description:

CMG are partnering with a leading international project-based business, seeking to appoint a new Head of Financial Reporting & Control.

Role Summary
This senior leadership role will work alongside the Head of FP&A to jointly lead the accounts team and ensure the effective operation of the finance function.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will oversee core financial operations including statutory reporting, audit, tax, financial controls, and compliance. It will also maintain financial data integrity, ensure accurate project financial reporting, and contribute to strategic decisions.

Working closely with the Board and stakeholders, the role will drive financial efficiency and support project success.
Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely management and statutory accounts, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Support budgeting and financial planning with the Head of FP&A.
  • Manage UK tax matters including payroll taxes, VAT, corporation tax, R&D credits.
  • Handle overseas tax matters depending on project jurisdictions.
  • Implement financial controls and monitor cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and laws.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax advisers, and partners.
  • Manage payrolls in the UK and abroad.
  • Oversee project accounting, revenue recognition, and reporting.
  • Review client contracts, fee proposals, and mitigate risks.
  • Encourage project managers to own financial performance.

Strategic Leadership

  • Contribute financially to business planning and initiatives.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for financial sustainability.
  • Present financial info clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Develop the finance team and foster continuous improvement.
  • Allocate tasks, ensure accuracy, and maintain performance standards.
  • Mentor staff for professional growth.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Senior finance experience, preferably in project-based sectors (architecture, engineering, property, construction).
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards and compliance.
  • Experience with UK and international tax.
  • Proficiency in financial reporting, accounting, and compliance.
  • Experience in project accounting, revenue recognition, and contract oversight.
  • Proficient with Sage 200 and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial insights effectively.
