Head of Financial Reporting
As the Head of Financial Reporting, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM), and other government guidelines. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing the production of the annual report and accounts
- Managing financial statements and ensuring appropriate management review and escalation where necessary
- Working closely with external auditors during the audit period to facilitate a seamless review process and ensure timely completion of financial reports
- Analyzing current financial processes to identify opportunities for improvement and implementing strategies to enhance efficiency and control
- Providing technical accounting advice aligned with IFRS, FReM, and relevant government regulations
- Representing the finance function both internally and externally, contributing to key discussions on financial matters
- Motivating and developing your team, fostering a culture of growth, continuous learning, and excellence
- Advising senior leadership on corporate financial performance, risk management, and reporting requirements
- Deputizing for the Financial Controller when needed
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in managing the production of an Annual Report and Accounts, along with handling external audits
- Strong understanding of complex financial reporting issues, accounting principles, and cash management standards relevant to government departments
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Clear and confident communication abilities, with strong influencing skills
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial information and tailor reporting to different audiences
- Experience in identifying efficiencies and standardizing financial processes
- Full CCAB or CIMA accountancy qualification
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Prior experience working with accounting software, particularly Oracle
- Practical knowledge of IFRS 16 Leases, including making sound accounting judgments that withstand audit scrutiny
- Familiarity with the Financial Reporting Manual, Managing Public Money, and Consolidated Budgeting Guidance
