Job description
Overview

We're looking for a Head of Financial Planning & Analysis with FP&A experience to join our Finance Team as maternity cover for up to 12 months. You will be a key member of the finance team, engaging with key stakeholders across the organisation and responsible for the delivery of accurate, consistent reporting and forecasts of financial performance; leading the production of monthly management accounts; the analysis of financial performance; the budgeting and forecasting cycle and the long term planning for the charity. This role will lead the post-implementation period after the introduction of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and ensure the benefits are felt within the Finance team and the organisation more widely. The role holder will ensure that the new finance system is utilised to drive improvements in reporting and forecasting, including tighter reporting timeframes, improved management reports and information, and enhanced models for use in financial planning. The role is accountable for the development and delivery of team plans, and for managing the Finance Business Partners and the Management Accountant. This role is subject to a criminal record check (a basic check will be completed if you are shortlisted).

Note: This is a maternity cover appointment for up to 12 months.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the processes for setting the charity's financial plans, including agreeing timetables and deliverables for presentation to the Executive Team and Finance Committee.
  • Manage the month end process, owning the timely delivery of clear, accurate monthly management accounts and monthly Finance reports.
  • Lead on embedding the new finance system with the Finance team and the wider organisation to realise improvements in management reporting and financial planning.
  • Understand variances in monthly financial performance and explain them clearly and concisely to the Director of Corporate Services, Executive Team and Trustees.
  • Develop insights and make proactive proposals to budget holders on financial opportunities for efficiency or improving value for money.
  • Build strong relationships with the Executive Team, Associate Directors and Heads of Service, and be a trusted source of financial support and guidance to ensure Finance receives the support it needs to meet its objectives.
  • Manage the two Finance Business Partners and Income Management Accountant, providing appropriate support and guidance to enable their development and achievement of objectives.
What you’ll need
  • Qualified Accountant (CCAB or equivalent) with strong demonstrable experience in a senior finance role with FP&A.
  • Experience in management and delivery of budgets and forecasts, and in the management and delivery of monthly results and reporting.
  • Ability to identify, drive and manage change within a Finance function to deliver a more effective operation.
  • Excellent management and leadership skills.
  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritise competing priorities and manage stakeholder expectations around deadlines.
  • Understanding of charity VAT and corporation tax is desirable.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is desirable.
