Job overview
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at King's is located on the Denmark Hill site and has 36 cots.
We provide level 3 Medical and Surgical care to sick term babies and preterm babies born as early as 22 weeks gestation. We are a major referral centre offering a first-class intensive care service to South East London, Kent, the Medway towns, Brighton, West Sussex, and beyond.
We pride ourselves on having one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. Our team of Neonatal therapists work closely with patients, families, and staff to achieve optimal neurodevelopmental outcomes. We actively promote Family Integrated Care and have recently initiated weekly parent-led ward rounds in our lower dependency areas.
Our experienced PDNs and Senior Sisters will support you in your new role, providing a bespoke orientation program and personalized career pathway to support your professional development.
We collaborate with our sister unit at Princess Royal University Hospital and offer opportunities to work cross-site as part of your development in the Junior Sister role.
Our maternity department handles over 6,000 deliveries annually and is supported by the Harris Birthright Fetal Medicine Centre, led by Professor Nikolaides.
Main duties of the job
Our nurses are responsible for planning, managing, and coordinating clinical care for babies requiring high-level nursing care, supporting staff development on the unit. We focus on developing future nursing leaders and provide individualised professional leadership and clinical development alongside a full team of Practice Development Nurses.
