Salary: A GBP 58,857 per annum

The Role

This position leads the Financial Accounting Team at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The team is responsible for the integrity of finance systems, statutory reporting, and managing the balance sheet, including fixed assets.

This is a key role offering an opportunity to influence the team's operations and future direction.

Applicants must be CCAB, CIMA qualified (or equivalent) with a strong track record in large, complex organizations. Collaboration and stakeholder engagement are essential.

DVSA is a large government organization responsible for road safety, operating across Great Britain, with annual income around A GBP 450m and approximately 4,600 employees.

The Head of Financial Accounting ensures effective financial stewardship, compliance with standards, delivery of the Annual Report and Accounts, managing the annual audit, and securing an unqualified audit opinion.

The role directly manages 5 colleagues and influences the entire Finance department on financial accounting matters. It involves engagement with senior leaders and external stakeholders.

The role collaborates with managers across the agency to support frontline delivery and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to achieving DVSA's strategy by ensuring robust internal controls, financial sustainability, and value for money.
• Provide assurance to the Accounting Officer regarding income, expenditure, assets, liabilities, and reserves, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial accounts.
• Produce accurate and timely financial reports, including the Annual Report and Accounts.

Person Specification

• Fully qualified CCAB, CIMA accountant (or equivalent) with extensive financial accounting experience.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of conveying complex financial messages to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with statutory reporting frameworks (UK GAAP, IFRS, etc.) and delivering Annual Reports and Accounts.
• Proactive with a proven delivery record.
• Experience leading financial activities in large, complex organizations.
• Confident and enthusiastic, capable of driving team achievement and shared objectives.
