Head of Finance Business Partnering (Interim)

UPP is a leading investor and provider of student accommodation and university infrastructure, working in partnership with universities to provide services including financing, design, build, management, and operation of residential student accommodation and academic buildings. We have over 35,000 rooms across 15 university partners and have invested over £3.5 billion in the sector. The business operates as a REIT with 22 SPVs, which hold university properties and are central to our business model, encompassing large capital projects and complex funding structures.

FP&A is a sub-function reporting to the CFO, responsible for business partnering, financial planning, performance reporting, business modeling, and financial analysis.

We have a fixed-term contract opportunity for a Head of Finance Business Partnering, accountable for designing and implementing reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes. The role involves supporting the Executive team and managers, influencing decision-making, and developing business strategies. The role manages two finance business partners and supports all SPV activities, requiring a detailed understanding of contract structures and strong relationships with Partnerships and Asset Management teams.

This hybrid role is based in London near Cannon Street and London Bridge stations, starting in early July for a 9-month period.

We seek candidates with a numerate degree, an accountancy background, and FP&A or business partnering experience, preferably in Real Estate, Student Accommodation, PBSA, or Project Finance sectors, with the following qualities:

  • Experience leading a team of finance professionals in a medium to large enterprise
  • Experience working with executives on budgets and forecasts
  • Experience advising on high-value projects or transactions
  • Strong financial and commercial judgment
  • Experience supporting large capital or cost reduction programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
  • High initiative and a value-driven mindset
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder influence
  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentation
  • Experience with REIT or SPV structures is highly desirable
