About the Role

The Director of Finance will be a key member of the UK executive leadership team, supporting FCA-regulated consumer credit card lenders, Authorized Payment Institutions, and E-Money providers. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is vital in establishing and driving operational success.

Responsibilities

1. Finance Team Establishment
2. Build and develop the finance team, recruiting high-caliber talent to support business objectives.
3. Design and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls suitable for a start-up environment.

1. Accounting and Software Configuration
2. Select and configure the general ledger and accounting software to meet business needs.
3. Establish robust financial reporting structures for accurate and timely decision-making.

1. Financial Control and Treasury
2. Oversee cash flow management and settlement, ensuring adequate liquidity for operational and strategic goals.
3. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to support informed decisions.
4. Conduct regular financial analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
5. Manage safeguarding accounts, including oversight and reconciliation.

1. Statutory Reporting and Compliance
2. Ensure accurate preparation and submission of statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP/IFRS.
3. Oversee reconciliation processes to maintain financial accuracy and transparency.
4. Manage the audit process, acting as the primary contact for external auditors and resolving findings promptly.

1. Governance and Regulatory Compliance
2. Ensure compliance with FCA regulations, especially regarding financial reporting and risk management.
3. Maintain and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and uphold regulatory standards.

1. Debt Financing
2. Oversee securitization and debt financing activities for clients where required.

Skills and Attributes Required

• Significant senior finance leadership experience, ideally within a start-up or fast-growth, FCA-regulated financial services environment.
• Experience with consumer credit, API (Authorized Payment Institution), or E-Money requirements such as safeguarding and client funds reconciliation is preferred.
• Proven ability to establish financial processes, configure accounting systems, and build teams from scratch.
• Strong knowledge of FCA regulations and UK financial reporting standards.
• Experience managing audits and reconciliation processes.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing at the board level.

Experience and Qualifications

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Degree in finance, accounting, economics, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with FCA regulations, UK GAAP/IFRS, and start-up operations.
• Knowledge of balance sheet financing.
