POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Head of Finance (HoF) to lead all aspects of the day-to-day finance function. This role is hybrid, requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. The salary offered is between £65,000 - £70,000. The ideal candidate will have experience managing a high-performing finance team, vendor and regulator relationships, statutory filings, and overseeing finance processes. The role will support the Director of Corporate Services in finance risk management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Finance vendor and regulator relationship management: Managing contractual relationships with banks, investment firms, payroll providers, insurance brokers, finance system vendors, payment platforms, auditors, HMRC, the UK Charity Commission, and Companies House. Responsibilities include bank signatory updates, tenders, contract renewals, drafting, and conflict resolution.
- Finance statutory filings: Ensuring timely and accurate tax returns and annual reports are filed with relevant regulators.
- Finance process oversight: Managing processes such as year-end and month-end reporting, quarterly forecasts, annual budgeting, and supporting membership renewal finance aspects.
- Developing and maintaining internal finance policies to ensure compliance with laws and standards.
- Supporting the Director in finance risk management: Addressing risks like insolvency, fraud, irregular spending, and maintaining good financial controls across branches.
- Finance team management: Leading, mentoring, and supporting finance staff to enhance their skills and performance.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Qualified, chartered accountant (e.g., CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
- Self-motivated with strong communication skills
- Strong financial analysis skills
- 5+ years overseeing budget processes and statutory reporting (e.g., FRS102) in the charity sector
- 5+ years managing quarterly forecasts and monthly reports for diverse audiences
- Experience with tax return filings
- Skills in improving finance processes and reporting
- Experience resolving conflicts with stakeholders
- Charity sector finance experience, including team management
Desirable
- Experience leading finance system projects
- Experience with UK professional membership bodies and international branches
