Osborne Appointments represents a successful SME in Letchworth Garden City seeking a Head of Finance to own the finance function and drive sustainable growth. You will partner with the MD and SLT to shape financial strategy and performance reporting.

You will lead budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management, delivering insightful analysis and robust financial controls. Experience with Xero and a strategic mindset are essential for this leadership role.

Qualifications

• Qualified professional accountant with CIMA/ACCA/ACA or equivalent.
• Experience leading a finance function within an SME.
• Experience using Xero to maximise capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the finance function and small finance team.
• Lead the company's financial strategy, planning and forecasting.
• Develop annual budgets and longer-term financial projections.
• Provide financial insight and advice to the MD and Senior Leadership Team.
• Support strategic and commercial decision-making through financial modelling.
• Maintain strong control of profitability, margins, cash flow and working capital.
• Identify opportunities to improve business performance and ROI.
• Develop dashboards and Board reporting for effective governance.
• Ensure robust financial controls, governance, compliance and audit readiness.

Head of Finance – About the Company

Our client is a successful and growing SME based in Letchworth Garden City, with strong ambitions for continued growth.

They are looking to recruit an experienced and commercially minded Head of Finance to take ownership of the finance function and play a key role in supporting the next stage of the business.

The business has recently invested in its finance systems and infrastructure.. This is an opportunity for a strategic finance leader to build on these foundations, strengthen financial planning and insight, and work closely with the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team to support commercial decision-making and sustainable growth.

Head of Finance – Details

Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm, with an early finish on Friday

Based in Letchworth Garden City

Salary £75,000 - £85,000 per annum

Head of Finance – Responsibilities

• Lead the finance function and small finance team
• Lead the company's financial strategy, planning and forecasting
• Develop annual budgets and longer-term financial projections
• Provide financial insight and advice to the Managing Director and Senior Leadership Team
• Support strategic and commercial decision-making through financial modelling and scenario analysis
• Maintain strong control of profitability, margins, cash flow and working capital
• Identify opportunities to improve business performance, efficiency and return on investment
• Provide financial analysis for new revenue streams and growth opportunities
• Develop clear management information, dashboards and Board reporting
• Ensure robust financial controls, governance, compliance and audit readiness
• Maximise the use of Xero and continue to improve finance systems, reporting and processes
• Lead, develop and strengthen the finance team
• Work closely with leaders across the business to improve financial understanding and accountability

Head of Finance – What We're Looking For

• A recognised professional accountancy qualification, preferably CIMA, although ACA and ACCA will also be considered
• Proven experience leading a finance function within a growing SME
• Previous experience using Xero, with the ability to maximise its capabilities
• Experience transitioning a more operational finance function towards a strategic and commercially focused approach
• Experience working closely with an MD, Board or Senior Leadership Team
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial modelling experience
• Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to turn financial information into clear business recommendations
• Experience developing and leading a finance team
• Strong systems capability, including finance systems, reporting and automation
• Confidence to constructively challenge and influence senior decision-making
• Strong communication, organisation and analytical skills

Desirable:

• Previous experience within a retail environment
