Job summary

Willowbrook Hospice in Knowsley, United Kingdom, is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join our Senior Leadership Team. You will lead financial strategy, planning and governance to support sustainable delivery of our mission.

Collaborating with trustees and senior leaders, you will oversee budgeting, management accounts, compliance and financial reporting, while developing the Finance Team and ensuring transparent reporting to the Trading Company Directors.

Qualifications

• Qualified professional accountant with governance and statutory reporting experience.
• Significant senior finance leadership experience in charities or regulated sectors.
• Experience of budgeting, long-term financial planning and cashflow forecasting.
• Strong knowledge of charity accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead annual budgeting and long-term financial forecasts.
• Produce management accounts, financial statements, and cashflow forecasts.
• Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance including Charity Commission reporting and VAT.
• Provide financial insight for strategic decisions.
• Lead and develop the Finance Team, fostering accountability.
• Build cross-organisational relationships with HR, Fundraising and Retail.
• Oversee payroll, investments, asset management and financial governance.

Your Key Responsibilties

• Lead the annual budgeting process and develop long-term financial forecasts to support organisational sustainability.
• Produce accurate management accounts, financial statements and cashflow forecasts for the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Trustees and Trading Company Directors.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including Charity Commission reporting, VAT, Corporation Tax and charity accounting standards.
• Provide expert financial advice and insight to support key business decisions and strategic planning.
• Lead, develop and support the Finance Team, fostering a culture of accountability, learning and continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships across the organisation, partnering with HR, Fundraising and Retail teams to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.
• Oversee payroll, investments, asset management and financial governance processes.

About You & Your Skills

We're looking for someone who can bring both technical expertise and inspiring leadership.

• A recognised professional accountancy qualification.
• Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role.
• Experience of preparing and managing annual budgets, long-term financial plans and cashflow forecasts.
• Strong knowledge of statutory financial reporting, compliance and governance requirements.
• Experience working within a charity, healthcare or similarly regulated environment.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience of leading, developing and motivating teams.
• Strong knowledge of financial systems, accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to present complex financial information clearly and confidently to a range of audiences, including senior leaders and trustees.
