HEAD OF FAMILY Birmingham £55K - £70K

We are working with a forward-thinking law firm that is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor to take on a pivotal leadership role as Head of Family Law in Birmingham. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated individual to shape and grow a thriving department, with a strong focus on privately paying matters alongside Legal Aid Agency (LAA) funded work.

The Role

As Head of Department, you will:

  • Lead, manage, and inspire the Family Law team.
  • Oversee a mixed caseload, predominantly LAA-funded matters alongside a smaller private caseload.
  • Focus primarily on private children law cases (residence, contact, relocation, etc.), excluding DV-focused work.
  • Supervise and mentor junior solicitors, ensuring consistent quality and compliance.
  • Play a key role in business development and client relationship management.
  • Build and maintain professional networks across the region.
Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor with 5+ years PQE in Family Law.
  • Panel membership (e.g., Resolution or Family Law Panel).
  • Proven track record in private children law matters.
  • Experience in both LAA and privately paying cases.
  • Demonstrable leadership and supervision experience.
  • Strong knowledge of LAA billing, compliance, and cost control.
  • Strategic thinker with drive to grow and develop a department.

Desirable: Existing network and contacts in the Birmingham/West Midlands legal community.
