Good Afternoon,

I am currently representing Slough Council, who are offering an initial temporary contract for a period of 6 months with a view to be extended or offered a permanent position for the right candidate at a rate which is negotiable dependent upon experience.

We are looking for a Head of Environmental Services. this role will be: SL1 2EJ Hybrid

Overview

The Head of Environmental Services at Slough Council is a key leadership role reporting to the Director of Environment & Highways. The position is responsible for overseeing the strategic planning, development, and implementation of key environmental front line services within the council. The role requires a strong focus on budget management, environmental sustainability, waste management, and the protection of natural resources, while aligning with the council's priorities and contributing to the overall environmental objectives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning and management of waste collection, recycling, and disposal programs. Establish an effective method of response to residential recycling and waste enquiries as necessary, delivering excellent levels of customer service and ensuring feedback is engaged to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Drive and lead projects on new environmental services initiatives and improvements to deliver council strategic objectives, implementing strategies and community engagement to optimise waste management practices and increase recycling rates.
• Drive the council's environmental sustainability agenda, incorporating best practices and innovative solutions.
• Lead the development of strategies to ensure that the service continues to improve and complies with emerging legislation.

Requirements

• Experience in environmental management, preferably in a public sector or related environment or similar technical service environment of comparable size and complexity as Slough Borough Council.
• Demonstrated track record of successfully driving service improvements, operational efficiencies, and cost savings in a complex organisational environment. The post holder will have good knowledge of utilising procurement and contract management practices to drive service improvement and efficiency initiatives.
• Demonstrated track record of leading a customer-focused, high-performance culture, including workforce planning, objective setting, performance management, motivating and inspiring a diverse group of staff with different backgrounds and career goals.
