About The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Director you will play a pivotal role in coaching, mentoring and developing a talented team of engineers with the goal to continuously lead the way in this exciting and challenging area of aerospace.

This exciting opportunity will place the right candidate at the forefront of uncrewed air systems development in the UK.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Management

  • Leadership and management of multidisciplinary engineering design teams
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff including providing career and professional development and training opportunities
  • Provide performance management through establishment of goals, feedback and encouraging employee contribution
  • Generate and manage workload plans to ensure timely project delivery and creating staff development opportunities
  • Recruit and support organisational growth
  • Develop tools, processes, and training to advance engineering capability
  • Ensure any manufacturing, test or flight operations are undertaken by the team safely in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures

Technical Responsibilities

  • Guide, or lead where appropriate, the capturing of customer requirements, shaping a technical solution for customer proposals through to delivery
  • Provide ongoing technical assurance to projects through life, supporting the nominated technical lead and project manager
  • Represent the company with customers and suppliers as necessary.
  • Lead major technical reviews, including design reviews.
  • Ensure quality and compliance with the company’s policies and procedures.

Project Delivery

  • Estimate and plan complex projects in close cooperation with the programme management team
  • Support the programme management team, by managing and motivating the team to deliver projects on time and to budget

Company & Strategic Growth

  • Provide technical input to new business development activity, bids and proposals.
  • Supporting the CEO and other member of the SLT to ensure the Company has an appropriate culture and systems to conduct its activities both lawfully and ethically

Health and Safety

  • Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner
  • Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
  • When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills

Essential

  • Strong experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrable line management and senior leadership experience
  • Experience of leading technical teams to deliver complex products from concept to delivery
  • Experience in aircraft design and/or complex system integration
  • Whole lifecycle experience within aviation, defence, or a similarly regulated industry

Desirable

  • Experience of uncrewed air systems and/or a keen interest in aviation
  • Rapid prototyping, design for manufacture, agile delivery methodologies

Personal Attributes

  • Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK
  • Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel
  • A full valid UK driving license a
  • Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
