Job description

Join to apply for the Head of Economic Planning role at RPS.

RPS is seeking a Head of Economics to lead and expand our Economics Team. This pivotal role is within our National Development & Infrastructure Planning Team, collaborating closely with our Environment Division. You will work with multidisciplinary teams of planning experts on projects such as new settlements, urban extensions, city development, business spaces, logistics, and renewable energy projects (solar and wind) across England, Scotland, and Wales.

At RPS, our projects surround you. We define, design, and manage projects that create shared value in a resource-scarce, urbanizing world. Our success depends on our people—those who can find solutions to meaningful problems.

What You Will Do

You will contribute to national development projects across the UK, working collaboratively with Planning and Environment colleagues. This role offers the opportunity to build and mentor a team, develop their professional skills, and contribute to the company's success through project delivery. Building client relationships and securing new projects are also key responsibilities.

You will generate new and repeat business, providing professional consultancy advice to clients and colleagues. The team is responsible for coordinating submissions for frameworks, large tenders involving other divisions, and supporting other offices as needed.

Who We Are Looking For
  • Qualified MIED, IEMA, and/or RTPI
  • Experienced practitioner with expertise in economic impact assessments and ES Socio Economic Chapters
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Experience as an expert witness in Examinations in Public and Public Inquiries
  • Proven people management skills
  • Strategic thinker with negotiation skills and a track record of achieving outcomes
  • Established market reputation with a record of winning sustainable, viable projects
  • Good financial and project management skills
  • Excellent influencing and communication skills to build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and external bodies
