Are you a passionate ecological leader ready to make a real impact? Do you dream of playing a key role in reversing biodiversity loss and shaping the future of UK landscapes for butterflies, moths, and people? Practicus is partnering with Butterfly Conservation in their search for an inspiring Head of Ecology Services to lead their dedicated team in delivering expert land management advice, overseeing their nature reserves, and developing an innovative new advisory hub for external partners.

Responsibilities
  • Managing land management work, including on BC’s nature reserves
  • Developing a new external advisory hub for ecology and land services
  • Leading and inspiring the Ecology Services team
  • Supporting income generation through sustainable chargeable services
  • Representing BC in national partnerships and championing their impact
Minimum Requirements
  • A degree in biological, environmental, forestry, or rural land use science—or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK Lepidoptera ecology and habitat needs
  • Proven experience in habitat management for nature outcomes
  • Track record of developing high-value partnerships and delivering projects/contracts
  • Confident using digital tools like Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Skilled in budget management and financial oversight
  • Strong project management abilities
  • Experience in applying for and managing grants, contracts, and land agreements
  • Location: remote with occasional travel to Dorset
Compensation and Contract
  • Salary: £38,366 to £44,427 per annum
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Closing date: Friday 23rd May
