Job description

Our borough is beginning a huge transformation. With ambitious regeneration plans, a need for new infrastructure, and plenty of investment on the way, things are changing. And we are transforming our organisation to be better equipped to have the greatest impact for our community. We need leaders to take us on the journey.

Our Council is changing. We’re reviewing our structure, systems and our culture to create a more sustainable model for the future, that is better placed to meet financial challenges, can make better use of data and technology in our work, and ensures a clarity of focus on our priorities for the borough.

In this key leadership role, you will ensure that our ‘digital first’ modernisation programme has momentum and impact. This will see you leading on the development and delivery of the Digital Strategy and Digital First corporate priority alongside the development of major service reviews. You will work across all aspects of this change programme, evaluating how well we are utilising the functionality of our core IT systems and assessing where investment in new technology will add value. Alongside the technical aspect of the role, you will also recognise the need to commit resources to supporting staff to develop new skills, new practices and better processes. Close working with colleagues in our Organisational Development and Modernisation teams will be integral to ensuring a cohesive, council-wide approach. Throughout, you will be a champion and advocate for innovative practice and future thinking.

There will also be the opportunity for you to contribute on wider strategic issues. How do we ensure our communities are digitally enabled? How can better digital connectivity support regeneration and attract inward investment? And how can digital engagement support closer connections to community and our early intervention strategies?

It’s an opportunity that will suit someone with a strong understanding of digital and artificial intelligence (AI) and the application of technology-powered, new media enabled, but human-led services. We expect that you will already have significant experience of leading or delivering Digital Transformation services at a strategic/senior management level, and that you have an informed appreciation of the cultural aspects of change and developing digital capacity, as well as the operational. You should have a good knowledge and hands-on experience of promoting channel shift, service redesign and meeting resident/customer need across a range of service areas.

You can Contact Steve Guest or Amy Billington at Solace in Business on 020 7976 311 for a confidential discussion.
