Job summary

Advanced Technical Recruitment is seeking a Head of R&D based in Oxfordshire to lead a team developing advanced optical, optoelectronic and electronic technologies. The role focuses on camera systems, sensors, thermal imaging and optical products, from concept through production, while coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines and production to meet specifications and schedules.

The ideal candidate will have a degree in electronics or related fields and substantial product development

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronics, Photonics, Optical Engineering or related field.
• Proven experience in product development for optical/electronic products with electronics bias.
• Experience with optical system design, cameras or thermal imaging payloads is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a small team of engineers across electronics, optics and related disciplines.
• Drive development of electronic systems including cameras, sensors and optical components from concept to production.
• Coordinate with Optical, Mechanical, Software and Electronics engineers and production to deliver NPIs on schedule.
• Produce and maintain engineering documentation in line with company processes.
• Identify new technologies and methods to strengthen future product development.
• Provide technical support to internal teams and customers.

Job Outline

My client, who is a leading developer of advanced optical, optomechanical, optoelectronic and electronic technologies, is now looking for a Head of R&D to join their growing team based in Oxfordshire.

As the Head of R&D, you will manage a small team of engineers focussed on developing electronic systems including camera systems, sensors, thermal imaging products, optics and optical systems.

Working on projects from concept to production, you will manage all aspects of engineering resource with the aim of delivering a high-quality product on schedule and to specification.

With a personal bias towards electronics, you will work closely with my clients Optical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Software Engineers and Electronics Engineers as well as the production side of the business to support NPI activities.

Within the role you will project manage all aspects of product development from concept to production.

You will also support existing products and contribute to ongoing product development and maintenance, as well as produce and maintain engineering documentation in line with company processes.

Within the role, you will also identify new technologies, materials, and engineering methods that could strengthen future developments.

You will also provide technical support for internal teams and customers

Qualifications and Experience

It is expected that you will have a degree, or higher in Electronics, Photonics, Optical Engineering or another relevant engineering or scientific discipline.

Most important is experience in product development in the area of optical/electronic products with a bias towards electronics.

Experience with one or more of the following; optical system design, cameras, thermal cameras and payloads would be a great advantage.
