Are you a dynamic and visionary Design Technology leader passionate about inspiring the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers? Do you have the skills and experience to lead and develop a thriving Design Technology department in a supportive school environment in Kirkham, Lancashire?

This school, a successful, forward thinking secondary in the vibrant town of Kirkham, is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Head of Design Technology to lead our dedicated team and further enhance our engaging and successful DT curriculum. About the Role:

As Head of Design Technology, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and development of the Design Technology department. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing inspirational leadership and direction to the Design Technology team, fostering a collaborative and high-achieving environment.
  • Developing and implementing a creative, engaging, and challenging curriculum across Key Stages [Specify KS3, KS4, KS5 if applicable], ensuring progression and alignment with national standards.
  • Leading the development and implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies that inspire student curiosity, develop practical skills, and promote deep understanding of design principles.
  • Managing and allocating departmental resources effectively, ensuring a safe and stimulating learning environment.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the quality of teaching and learning within the department, implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Tracking student progress and attainment, implementing interventions to ensure all students achieve their full potential.
  • Developing and maintaining strong links with industry and the wider community to enrich the curriculum and provide students with real-world learning opportunities.
  • Leading and managing departmental staff, including performance management, professional development, and recruitment.
  • Contributing to the wider school improvement agenda and working collaboratively with other subject leaders.
  • Ensuring the health and safety of students and staff within the Design Technology workshops and classrooms.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in Design Technology education and implementing relevant innovations.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A qualified and experienced teacher of Design Technology.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of successfully leading and managing a Design Technology department or significant projects within the subject.
  • A strong passion for Design Technology and a deep understanding of current curriculum developments and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
  • The ability to analyse data and use it to inform departmental improvement.
  • A commitment to raising student achievement and fostering a love of learning.
  • A relevant degree in Design Technology or a related field.
