About Us: Our vision is simple - to ensure that all of our students achieve beyond our expectations and flourish as confident learners with the highest aspirations, ready for a bright and successful future and ready for the world in which they will work and live. We are relentless in our pursuit of the very best for all our students. We understand challenges but do not accept them as limitations. We understand the critical role we play in the lives of our students, their families and our community. We take our responsibility very seriously and thrive on the challenge to be the best school in the borough. Welling School is proud to be an all ability, co-educational 11-18 school, located in the London borough of Bexley. As well as serving our local community we welcome students from a diverse range of backgrounds and areas. Each of them bringing their own part to make up the school Community. We are proud to be part of The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) which is one of the largest Multi Academy Trusts in South East England with 45 Primary and Secondary Academies in the TKAT family. We know that to be the best for our students we also need to be the best for our staff. We offer a personalised and diverse approach to ongoing professional development where nothing is off the table. As well as weekly high impact training we offer staff a wide ranging opportunity to pursue their interest, futures and skill development. All ultimately focused on providing students with an outstanding experience.

The Role: We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic teacher to take on the role of Head of Department - Social Sciences. Our Head of Department will be responsible for the development and delivery of the curriculum, ensuring our staff have strong and up to date subject knowledge and that students are knowledgeable, confident learners who make strong progress and achieve excellent outcomes - especially those students who need us even more. You will have an unstinting belief that every young person, whatever their starting point, can make and sustain exceptional progress and that our purpose is to change lives. We are looking for an exceptional Social Sciences practitioner with QTS/QTLS who can use their experience, extensive subject knowledge, and vision to get the best from their team and deliver high quality outcomes for our students. We are keen to hear from excellent teachers, passionate about their subject and who can clearly see why it has an important part to play in the curriculum. The length of your experience as a teacher is less important to us than your ability to motivate and inspire. Our new colleague will have access to on-going development opportunities and the support of a forward thinking, successful multi-academy trust. You will be joining a well-led, supportive and cohesive team of professionals who will do whatever it takes to help you to succeed in your new and exciting role.

As well as having a passion for young people and their futures our colleague will:

  1. be a dynamic and creative professional with a desire for students to achieve beyond expectation
  2. be an ambitious classroom practitioner with high standards and excellent subject knowledge
  3. bring an unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes
  4. have the ability to engage, inspire and build excellent relationships with both students and staff

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly ambitious team of staff and make a real impact on our students' lives. The successful candidate will teach across the full age and ability range up to A level and be able to teach at least 2 out of the 3 key subject areas (Criminology, Sociology and Psychology). Welling School is easily accessible from London, Kent and surrounding areas. Our staff enjoy a two week October half term and excellent weekly teacher development.
