Are you an experienced English teacher ready to take the next step in your career? Do you have the vision and leadership to shape a thriving English department within an independent school setting?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of English to join a growing independent school in Hampshire. This is a full-time, permanent role starting in Autumn 2025. The school provides education for pupils aged 4-19 and is committed to inclusive, student-centred learning.

As Head of English, you will play a key role in leading the department with strategic insight, creativity, and a passion for outstanding teaching. You'll be responsible for delivering engaging lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, ensuring high achievement for all learners.

This role offers the chance to:

  • Lead the English department with vision and purpose

  • Inspire pupils of all abilities, including those with SEND

  • Shape and implement a progressive, inclusive curriculum

  • Deliver English Language and Literature to GCSE and A-Level

  • Foster a love of learning through co-curricular and enrichment activities

  • Use data-driven strategies to track progress and inform planning

We are looking for an experienced teacher and leader who:

  • Has a strong track record of excellent classroom practice across the key stages

  • Is confident supporting learners with a wide range of needs, including SEND

  • Can guide colleagues with enthusiasm and clarity, building a collaborative team culture

  • Has the ability to plan strategically and implement meaningful departmental change

  • Brings fresh ideas for teaching, assessment and student engagement

  • Is passionate about creating opportunities for every child to succeed and thrive

Working in this setting, you'll benefit from:

  • A close-knit, nurturing school community

  • The autonomy to shape the direction of the English department

  • Professional development opportunities tailored to leadership growth

  • A diverse and inclusive student population that brings energy and individuality to the classroom

  • A school that values innovation, creativity, and holistic development beyond the classroom

This is more than a department lead role-it's your chance to make a meaningful impact on a growing school's future and help every student find their voice through English.
