Job summary

Paddle seeks a Head of Data Science to build Paddle's data science capability from the ground up in the United Kingdom. This founding role combines hands-on data work with system deployment, monitoring and governance, ultimately owning automated decisioning across the product.

You will hire and lead a hub-and-spoke team of data scientists and ML engineers, collaborate with Product, Payments, Engineering, Risk and Finance, and shape the data-enabled future of Paddle's merchant platform.

Qualifications

• Experienced leading data science or ML teams that own systems in production.
• Hands-on now, writing SQL and Python, engineering features, evaluating models and agents.
• Experienced across traditional ML and agentic systems, clear about differences in practice.

Responsibilities

• Prioritise opportunities with biggest impact and size candidates across payments, revenue recovery, growth, monetisation, risk and compliance; refresh quarterly.
• Deliver the first system end-to-end: analysis, back-test, features, model/agent, deployment, testing and rollout.
• Operate deployed systems: monitor, retrain, drift response, incident handling and rollback with engineering teams.
• Build and lead the team: hire senior data scientists and ML engineers embedded in value areas, set standards.
• Define production stack with Data Platform and Engineering: data, registry, inference services, observability, drift monitoring.
• Own value capture end-to-end: shadow-test and AB test deployments, translate metrics to financial value.
• Set governance for automated decisioning with Legal, Privacy, GDPR, EU AI Act and risk controls.
