Head of Data & Analytics (reporting to CIO)

We are looking for an experienced Data and AI leader who can help accelerate a data-driven culture and spearhead the responsible adoption of approved Large Language Models (LLMs) across the organization. This is a highly influential role requiring strategic partnership with leaders across this FTSE250 company to drive digital transformation through data and AI innovation.

This role is based in Newcastle and there is a requirement to be in the office at least 2 days a week with occasional travel to other sites within the UK.

Essential Experience & Skills required:
  • At least five years experience of Team Management in a Data analytics environment
  • Six or more years of relevant experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or statistical analysis role
  • Experience with SQL scripting, data warehousing, statistical analysis tools, Microsoft Excel, and data visualization tools such as Tableau and Amazon QuickSight; experience extracting and processing data using SQL and Excel
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Statistics, Computer Science or Mathematics
  • Proven experience of successfully managing a data analytics function
  • Track record of successfully translating advanced analytics capabilities into measurable business outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with the Azure data platform.
  • Data Architecting to create Entity, Logical, Physical Data Models
  • Data Dictionary (Common Business Language)– for ultimate use in new systems design
  • Experience in scripting languages (Python) for parsing and data analysis
  • Experience with one or more of the statistical modelling languages/ toolboxes (R, SAS)
  • Data Mapping & Migration, tools & techniques, ETL and Normalisation
  • Data Cleanse/Quality- Base lining, measurement, and improvement
  • Experience scaling and optimizing mature data platforms and driving enterprise-wide adoption
  • Knowledge of AI/ML implementation strategies and practical applications in business contexts
  • Experience with Generative AI technologies, LLMs, and their enterprise implementation
  • Experience developing AI-powered solutions that enhance business intelligence capabilities
