The business is seeking a driven and experienced Head of Contracts to lead the successful delivery of its live project portfolio. Managing a team of four Contracts Managers, you will take ownership of all contractual, financial, and operational aspects from pre-construction through to final account. You’ll be responsible for reviewing and negotiating JCT contracts, overseeing project programmes using MS Project, managing subcontractor relationships, and ensuring contractual compliance across a diverse range of commercial projects.
You’ll play a central role in client management, representing the business at meetings and maintaining strong communication throughout the project lifecycle. Internally, you’ll provide leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities to your team, while contributing to strategic business initiatives, including the development of a new small works division.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of experience in contracts management within the construction industry, with a strong track record of working with JCT contracts and delivering fit-out and refurbishment projects. You’ll be highly competent in managing construction programmes using MS Project and have a solid understanding of commercial contract law, valuations, variations, and final accounts. Financial and operational oversight will be second nature to you, and you’ll be confident leading internal meetings, resolving issues, and driving team performance. Professional qualifications such as CIOB membership are desirable, and a valid CSCS card (or eligibility for one) is essential. You’ll also be expected to demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills, along with a proactive, problem-solving attitude. Familiarity with financial software (ideally Spirepath), strong construction knowledge, and a commitment to health and safety will be key to success in this role. A hands-on, detail-focused approach and the ability to manage both people and projects are a must.
