Head of Construction
Weymouth, Dorset – Hybrid | £78,000–£85,000 + Bonus + Benefits

An established UK engineering organisation is seeking an experienced construction leader to drive operational delivery and strategic growth across its expanding overseas and UK construction programmes.

As Head of Construction, you will be responsible for all active construction operations. Your remit will cover project execution, resource planning, risk mitigation, quality assurance, and commercial performance across a diverse and challenging project portfolio. Reporting to the senior leadership team, you will also contribute to business development and long-term capability planning.

This is a high-impact role requiring excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and a strong command of NEC4 contract management within complex environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all active construction projects from mobilisation through to handover
• Ensure delivery to programme, cost, and quality across UK and international sites
• Drive compliance with NEC4 Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC) standards
• Represent the organisation at a senior level in client and subcontractor meetings
• Support capture and bidding of new construction opportunities
• Maintain a proactive approach to safety, quality, and operational risk
• Develop and lead the construction management team including resourcing and succession planning
• Provide strategic input as part of the senior leadership team

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong track record of construction leadership at Head of or Director level
• Demonstrable experience managing NEC4 ECC projects
• Proven success in overseas project environments
• Experience preparing tenders and cost estimates
• Skilled in using CEMAR and I-Auditor or similar QA tools
• Excellent stakeholder management and commercial awareness
• Health and safety leadership across multiple site conditions
• Degree or NVQ Level 7 in Construction Management or a Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) accredited qualification
• NEC4 Contract Accreditation

Desirable

• Infrastructure experience within high-security or defence-related programmes
