VANRATH are delighted to be partnering with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council in the recruitment of a Head of Compliance to lead their Information Governance and Records Management functions. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced compliance professional to step into a strategic leadership role within a dynamic public sector organisation.

The Role

As Head of Compliance, you will:

  • Lead the Council's Information Governance agenda, including Data Protection, FOI, and Environmental Information.
  • Act as the Council's Data Protection Officer (DPO), ensuring GDPR compliance and managing data breaches.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Records Management Strategy, including electronic document systems.
  • Provide expert advice to senior leadership and elected members on compliance and governance matters.
  • Represent the Council in external forums and tribunals, ensuring best practice and statutory compliance.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Degree-qualified with 2+ years' management experience in compliance, governance, or records management.
  • Proven experience in budget management and staff supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR, FOI, and Data Protection legislation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to interpret complex legislation.
