Job description

As Head of Community Editorial, you will lead a team of Community Editors who champion the experiences and perspectives of our readers. You will ensure that our readers’ voices are heard prominently throughout the Telegraph’s journalism, on the app and website, in podcasts, videos and in print. You will oversee our community editorial strategy and work closely with the Head of Community to develop new products and initiatives that foster subscriber loyalty and retention.

The Community team’s mission is to build the strongest reader community of all media publishers in the UK, to support subscriber loyalty and retention and contribute to the Telegraph’s wider ambitions for subscriber growth.

Key Responsibilities

● Develop, own and oversee the implementation of the Community team’s editorial and community strategies in line with the Telegraph’s wider ambitions for subscriber growth.

● Lead and line manage the Deputy Head of Community Editorial and Community Editors.

● Drive closer relationships and increased engagement between journalists and readers for mutual benefit and to support subscriber loyalty and retention.

● Oversee the team’s editorial output and community activity and ensure it meets the standards and style required.

● Lead the team’s editorial forward planning for major events.

● Contribute to editorial products and initiatives that impact our commenters and communities, liaising with external suppliers as needed.

● Lead on the establishment and documentation of best practices for editorial community products and initiatives.

● Commission and use data and insights to inform the team’s journalism and editorial

● Strong leadership skills with knowledge of and interest in the news agenda and current affairs

● Experience of writing, commissioning, editing or publishing highly engaging editorial content for multiple formats and platforms

● Excellent editorial judgement and strong understanding of media law as it applies to our journalism

● Deep understanding of The Telegraph’s subscribers, brands and journalistic values

● Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders and departments

● Proactive, enthusiastic approach to initiating and pushing through projects

● Experience of building and growing successful online communities

● Good knowledge of the existing digital publishing landscape and emerging media trends

● Working knowledge of publishing and workflow tools

● Demonstrable ability to use analytics tools and data reports to inform editorial decisions and improve performance
