Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced communications leader to own our communications and marketing function for a minimum of three months during a busy, transitionary period for the business. This will be a part-time (3-4 days per week) contract.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience managing impactful, analysis-led communications campaigns within the energy sector. You will be confident working with complex, technical outputs and understand how strategic communications can inform policy-making in Asia. You will manage a content-focused, full-time marketing manager, and some external contract partners. This role reports to the COO.

Please provide examples of successful report campaigns you have managed as part of your application.

Responsibilities

A focus of this contract period will be the release of a series of reports modelling 24/7 carbon free electricity in Asia. There are four reports to be published: Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia & Singapore. You will bring a ‘no-stone left unturned’ approach to the distribution of each report:

  • Review & refine reports: assist analysts in crafting final drafts, visualisations, and messaging
  • Project management: attend weekly syncs with analysts to ensure alignment internally and run weekly meetings with freelance comms support and designers to keep deliverables on track
  • Develop comms pack materials: quotes, graphics, charts, and copy and drive the overall narrative of the campaign through all of TransitionZero’s channels
  • Draft leadership comms outreach:support the wider TransitionZero team, including the CEO, in the development of bespoke communications materials for their social media channels
  • Oversee distribution:issue press releases, newsletters, and social campaigns; secure coverage placements for each report in tier one press (in collaboration with partners at GSCC and in-market freelancers); and engage key opinion leaders in each country, and ensure broad distribution of report findings to a list of high-level energy sector influencers
  • Manage reporting & analytics:track performance metrics (e.g., coverage, engagement), and deliver concise post-launch updates, track leads and ensure they’re correctly imported to HubSpot CRM, proactively flag opportunities for collaboration and amplification to the Analysis team
  • Event management: project manage and deliver an impactful webinar for Taiwan (including sourcing and booking guests, and drafting slides for presentation) and contribute to the live events in Singapore and Malaysia in terms of presentation materials and potentially panel coordination

Outside of the delivery of the four reports, your other responsibilities include:

  • Support the Communications & Marketing Manager in her day-to-day tasks, including social media posts, website content development, and email marketing through HubSpot
  • Support the Analysis team with other pending launches, mainly focussing on finessing blog posts, report slides and social media communications.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to continue the comms campaign around Scenario Builder.
Role Requirements

We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and has the confidence and experience to lead from day one. You’re a gifted storyteller with a firm understanding of the different levers that drive impact for grant-funded, analysis-led organisations. A sharp eye for detail is essential, as is confidence with dense, quantitative reports. Our communication strategy spans product and analysis, so you will be able to quickly build working relationships with data engineers, product managers and energy analysts. While we are a rapidly growing tech startup, we are also a non-profit, so a high level of adaptability and willingness to approach challenges with creativity and curiosity is essential.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven track record (6+ yrs) in communications for data-heavy, technical, or research-led organisations, preferably within energy or an energy-adjacent sector
  • Direct experience working on communications campaigns in Asia would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of Microsoft tools such Excel and Powerpoint, and project management tools including Notion and Slack.
  • Exceptional writing and editing ability – translating analytics into crisp narrative and visuals.
  • Confident media relations skills: writing press kits, media outreach, and managing spokespeople.
  • Experience managing cross-functional workflows and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Analytical approach with strong reporting skills to monitor and optimize campaign performance.
  • Project management and team management experience, preferably within nimble, start-up environments
  • Comfortable managing engagements with C-suite executives and high-level government officials
  • Solutions-oriented, adaptable, and happy to roll up your sleeves when the role demands it
  • Empathetic and mindful of different ways of working, and respectful of the unique skills that the people you manage and collaborate with bring to work
  • An appreciation of content-led marketing and curiosity about the constantly evolving world of social media
  • A desire to have a real impact on the energy transition
