Job description

Great British Nuclear (GBN) is a new government arm's length body supporting the delivery of Britain's energy security and net zero, making sure that we can power Britain from Britain sustainably. It has been set up to turn nuclear ambition into reality. This is an exciting and critical time to bring your experience and expertise to GBN.

The Head of Commercial Project Delivery is responsible for overseeing the commercial delivery of key programs, ensuring alignment and effective management of delivery plans, and coordination commercial activities to meet strategic objectives. This role works closely with senior stakeholders both internally and externally to manage dependencies, risks, and performance, while driving the successful delivery of major projects.

Day to day duties:

  1. Alignment and management of delivery plans for the commercial team: Responsibility for the overall commercial delivery plan including major GBN procurements; working with commercial deputy directors and leads to ensure priority objectives are clear and key milestones are being delivered to plan.
  2. Dependency Management: Work with senior commercial stakeholders and colleagues both internally and externally to ensure dependencies are actively managed, act as an arbiter and resolve issues between the various elements of the programme.
  3. Programme Performance & Controls: Maintain robust governance to monitor and drive key commercial activity. Manage assurance and approvals activities for the commercial team and support the central GBN programme management office with key activities such as business cases, gateway reviews, and business planning.
  4. Risks & Issues: Manage and understand a range of varied problems that require working across organisational boundaries, identifying, and ensuring implementation of risk mitigation.
  5. Stakeholder management: Identify and manage stakeholder relationships, including senior stakeholders and where there is need for senior level support.
  6. Resource Management: Support the Commercial senior leadership with resource planning and interface with the HR team to ensure effective resource management.
  7. Leadership: Be an active and visible member of the commercial management team to ensure the team is supported, and that employee wellbeing remains a key focus.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience required:

  1. The ability to establish and develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people together to benefit the project.
  2. The ability to influence, change and impact decisions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  3. The ability to lead planning, governance and risks and issues independently in a complex delivery environment.
  4. Experience in taking projects and programmes through the required approvals and assurance processes.
  5. Proven leadership skills in a programme environment.
  6. Experience of senior stakeholder engagement within a complex delivery environment.
  7. Experience in/ prior knowledge of the nuclear sector is desirable.
  8. Experience of project managing high value / complex procurements would be advantageous.
