Job summary

Emerald Law Solicitors Ltd. seeks a Head of Commercial Litigation / Senior Commercial Litigation Lawyer to establish and lead a new department in Liverpool.

The role involves building a team, managing a busy commercial disputes caseload, and shaping the department's strategic direction with a focus on growth and client service excellence. The successful candidate will drive business development, maintain high professional standards, and cultivate strong client relationships while delivering

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years PQE or equivalent in commercial litigation.
• Proven ability to manage a substantial caseload independently.
• Track record of generating work and building client relationships.
• Experience supervising or mentoring legal teams is advantageous.
• Strong commercial awareness with practical, strategic advice for clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and client care.

Responsibilities

• Establish and develop the Commercial Litigation Department from inception.
• Manage a caseload of commercial litigation matters from instruction to resolution.
• Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice on contracts, shareholder disputes, and more.
• Conduct negotiations and represent clients in litigation and ADR.
• Develop departmental procedures, workflows, and best practices.
• Pursue business development to grow the department and firm.
• Build relationships with clients, introducers, and referral partners.
• Collaborate across the firm to maximise cross-referral opportunities.
• Supervise and mentor junior team members as the department grows.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in commercial litigation.
