Job description

Are you an experienced Capesize Senior Chartering Manager looking to work for an established principal in their growing asset owning business in Singapore?

This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned Capesize Charterer/Broker/Freight Trader to market a dynamic and modern fleet (dual fuel ships) of bulk carriers.

This role also requires strong commercial acumen, operational expertise, project management, new business development skills/experiences and strategic planning to optimize profitability while collaborating closely with other departments and offices globally.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Chartering Activities

• Conduct market research to analyze freight trends, demand-supply dynamics, and competitive landscape.
• Assess and manage charterers’ creditworthiness to mitigate financial risks.
• Negotiate and conclude time charter and voyage charter contracts, including COA (Contracts of Affreightment), long-term/middle term and spot charters, and other agreements.
• Plan and manage vessel voyage schedules, optimizing fleet utilization and commercial efficiency.
• Develop optimal stowage plans in collaboration with the operations team to maximize cargo efficiency.
• Lead key chartering projects to enhance business profitability.
• Proceed with FFA deal for free tonnage in accordance with the company’s FFA heading strategy/policy in order to secure the stable profit.

2) New Business Development

• Researching business opportunities related to decarbonisation and formulating business plans, negotiating with customers
• Commercial lead for the development of a new ship type that enables decarbonization
• Support for the best finance package for new business development
• Lead and support any new business projects and project management

3) Team Leadership & Development

• Provide training, mentorship, and career development guidance to junior and subordinate staff.
• Foster a high-performance culture within the chartering team, ensuring knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements:

1) Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum 10 years or more experiences in shipping business of Capesize and/or other type of bulker.
• Experience in chartering at a mining company (such as RIO/BHP/VALE/ANGLO/FMG, etc.) is preferred.
• Experience of launching multiple new projects relating to decarbonization is positively considered.

2) Technical & Industry Knowledge

• Good understanding of maritime laws and regulations, including MARPOL, RightShip Rules and the ISMBC Code.
• Experience in voyage charter and time charter contract negotiations.
• Strong analytical and calculation skills.
• Proficiency in accounting and finance principles relevant to chartering and new business development.
• Hands-on experience with Veson IMOS or similar chartering software.
• Technical & Marine knowledge of Capesize and other type of bulkers including characteristics of bulker (new type of fuel) and safety standard required by the customers/RightShip.
• Project Management skill
• Willing to take up any ad hoc project assignments.
