Head of Commercial – Transmission & Renewables

South West / South Wales

£105,000 + car / car allowance

This position sits within the companies Transmission & Renewables division, working on high-profile schemes across the South West and South Wales. Regular travel to regional offices and project sites will be part of the role, so flexibility is key.

The Opportunity

As Head of Commercial, you’ll sit on the Senior Management Team, guiding the commercial direction of the business. You’ll build strong relationships with clients, ensure commercial governance is robust, and lead a high-performing commercial function that delivers consistency, accuracy, and value across all projects.

You’ll be the voice that brings clarity on commercial risks, opportunities, performance and forecasting ensuring the business continues to grow with confidence.

What You’ll Lead
Team Leadership & Development
  • Shape and lead a commercially strong and future-ready team
  • Set clear structures, responsibilities, and performance expectations
  • Mentor and develop commercial staff, supporting APC or equivalent pathways
  • Champion a culture where commercial and contractual awareness is second nature
Commercial Strategy & Delivery
  • Work with the Business Unit Director to shape annual strategy and business planning
  • Oversee tendering, commercial governance, margin improvement and risk management
  • Review contracts, negotiate terms and ensure full compliance with internal processes
  • Maintain strong contract administration across change control, forecasting and payments
  • Drive cash flow management, WIP control and accurate monthly reporting
  • Support project teams in resolving disputes and collaborating with legal colleagues
  • Attend regular project reviews to monitor performance and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure year-end audit obligations are met and commercial KPIs are achieved
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline
  • Extensive commercial experience in electricity transmission or similar major infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, NEC / standard forms of contract and measurement principles
  • Understanding of project controls and programming
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop high-performing teams
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
