Venesky Brown is seeking a Head of Civils Works Project Management Office for the Sizewell C (SZC) project in Suffolk.
The SZC Project aims to be the UK's most advanced nuclear generation asset, with a capacity of 3.2 GW, providing 60 years of electricity and supporting up to 70,000 jobs.
Job Role:
As part of SZC Project Controls, which manages delivery performance information, you will work within a matrix structure reporting to the Head of Programme Controls and the Civils Works Programme Director. Your focus will be on the Civils Works Programme (CWP).
Principal Accountabilities:
- Implement the Civils Works PMO:
- Define and drive the PMO vision, mission, and operating model, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, time, and cost within the Sizewell PMO framework.
- Lead a capable team with clear roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities.
- Build collaborative relationships with the CWA and Project Controls team.
Leadership and Culture:- Report to the Head of Programme Controls and Civils Works Programme Director, contributing to leadership initiatives.
- Translate strategic initiatives into detailed action plans with clear timelines.
- Lead the implementation of procedures and initiatives within the supply chain.
- Provide leadership and coaching to the team, promoting project values and a cost-conscious, continuous improvement culture.
- Manage functional leads in Schedule, Risk, Cost, Change, Reporting & Insights, and Data & IM.
- Anticipate, resolve issues, identify risks, and escalate as needed.
- Build and maintain relationships with project team members and stakeholders, including government bodies, regulators, and suppliers.
- Represent the project externally, showcasing progress and achievements.
- Oversee Cost, Risk, Schedule, Reporting & Change management within the CWP.
Digital Data and Information Management:- Establish best practices for digital and data strategy, ensuring data quality and alignment with the Sizewell C Head of Data + IM.
- Develop business requirements for systems and tools supporting the Civils Programme.
- Support the delivery of industry-leading Project Controls.
- Implement integrated project controls, including Schedule, Cost, Risk, Baseline, Change Management, and Reporting.
- Support progress reporting, schedule updates, forecasts, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure quality and timeliness of performance reports and assurance processes.
- Promote knowledge sharing and sector engagement to position SZC as a project controls exemplar.
Line Management Responsibilities:- Manage function leads covering cost, schedule, risk, change, reporting, data & IM, and Programme Controls Managers.
- Potentially oversee additional responsibilities as required.
Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Experience in large, complex infrastructure projects as a Project Controls Director.
- Knowledge of cost control, estimating, scheduling, change, and risk management, with understanding of earned value analysis.
- Proven leadership in a matrix environment, managing senior stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, presentation, influencing, and communication skills.
- Membership in professional bodies like AACE, PMI, or APM, with relevant certifications.
- Proficiency with reporting software and project controls systems, especially Power BI.
- Understanding of contract types, particularly NEC and FIDIC.
- Experience in the nuclear sector is preferred.
