Job summary

TheStates of Guernsey are looking to recruit a Clinical Lead to be the Head of theChildren's Dental Service. The Clinical Lead will be the strategic lead for theChildrens Dental Service, providing evidence based clinical leadership andsupporting the team to deliver related objectives. The appointee will beresponsible for overseeing the management of the Childrens Dental Service(CDS), working closely with the Practice Manager.

AsClinical Lead they will have a predominantly clinical role with administrativetime. The post holder will need to advocate an appropriate intervention andpreventative-focused service. The new Clinical Lead will need to work to a highethical standard and align with HSC and GDC code of conduct. The appointee willhave overall responsibility for the Oral Health team, working closely with thelead Dentist for this service. The appointee will also oversee the provision ofdental care for the child population of Alderney. The post holder will reportto the Associate Director for Maternity and Paediatrics.

Thepost holder will be expected to work closely with General Dental Practitioners,HSC Senior Management Teams, Senior Clinicians and The Medical Special Group.In addition to Dental Care Professionalsand wider multidisciplinary teams, including colleagues working in AlliedHealth Professions and in Education.

Main duties of the job

A key focus ofthe role is to improve clinical effectiveness and outcomes for CDS patients. Facilitatingequitable accessibility to the service, based on clinical need.

  • The appointeewill participation in the provision of comprehensive paedodontic treatmentsunder general anaesthesia and sedation.
  • The ClinicalLead from time to time will need to liaise with the visiting Consultants inOrthodontics and Oral Surgery.
  • The appointee will be responsible for carryingout and overseeing department audits and the provision of School Screening and EpidemiologicalProgrammes.
  • The appointeewill be responsible for developing a Health Promotion and Department Strategyto target health inequalities in the school community.
  • Representingthe CDS on HSC Committees as and when required.
  • There is a requirement toparticipate in the Island wide out of hours Emergency Dental Service, run bythe Guernsey Dental Association.
