Job summary

The Cambian Group is seeking a Head of Care to support the Registered Manager in leading a residential children’s home for those with complex mental health needs. You will ensure regulatory duties are met, drive quality of care, manage staff and budgets, and oversee the home’s environment to promote a safe and positive living space for the children.

Experience in a children’s home and strong knowledge of mental health/therapeutic approaches are required, with at least 2 years in a leadership

Job description

This post involves working closely to support the Registered Manager and take responsibility for the leadership and management of the residential care services provided the residential provision is a registered children’s home supporting children with complex mental health challenges. The home has a clinical input to support children with trauma and self-harming behaviours.

As ‘Head of Care, you will be supporting the Registered Manager to meet the legal and regulatory requirements associated with the running of a children’s home. You will ensure that legal and regulatory duties are fulfilled, risk is managed and best practice for regulatory guidance is implemented. This includes providing oversight the management of the quality of all care services provided, including staffing, delegated budgets, the resources and fabric of the buildings and the welfare of the children living at the home. Responsibility may also extend to managing the establishment as a whole for periods of time in the absence of the Registered Manager.

A key function of this role will be to implement and monitor processes to ensure delivery on strategic objectives while meeting regulatory requirements and ensuring that care staff are led and managed in a competent and effective way which provides a positive and supportive working environment for them whilst ensuring a pleasant and high-quality lifestyle for the Children living at the home.

There is a heavy reliance on the ability to lead, manage, supervise and support.

As Head of Care, you will strive for excellence in everything you do, have integrity, champion expertise through improvement and innovation and be a great team player. By developing risk monitoring and review/audit cycles to secure compliance you will be driving the quality-of-care service forward at establishment level and making valuable contributions to the home. Working in partnership to support the Registered Manager, you will be expected to maintain a high degree of awareness of individual programmes and to advise, create, monitor and evaluate the implementation of individual care and activity plans for the children living at the home.

To be considered for the role of Head of Care you will have experience withing a children’s home setting or relevant transferable experience. This will include excellent knowledge of mental health and therapeutic care approaches. The right candidate will also possess at least 2 years’ experience of working in a leadership/management role.

This is an off-shift role and covers 40hrs per week over 7 days. This will include a mixture of early, late and weekend shift working to meet the needs of the home.
