Job description

NATS is the UK's leading air navigation service provider, handling over 2.4 million flights each year. We provide air traffic control services from two control centres and at airports around the UK. The Opportunity:

As our Head of Business Risk, you'll play a critical role in evolving and enhancing risk management across NATS. You'll work with our senior leaders, Executive Team and Audit Committee to shape our risk strategy, setting the tone for how we respond to risk in a rapidly evolving aviation sector as we pursue our exciting 2040 strategy for the future of the UK's airspace.

You will be a key part of our dynamic Risk, Resilience and Assurance team, embedding a proactive risk culture and influencing leaders across the business to simplify and improve governance, risk and control. You will use your skills and experience to strengthen our risk management and resilience, collaborating with key stakeholders to provide timely risk information which supports management decision making and encourages broader risk considerations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Director of Risk and Assurance to set the strategic direction for enterprise risk management, focused on NATS' purpose and strategic objectives.
• Lead on embedding and enhancing the framework for enterprise risk management and resilience across the business, ensuring this is simplified and fit for purpose.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders and other key stakeholders, influencing them to promote and embed effective risk management.
• Produce accurate, timely and insightful reporting which adds value to the Executive team, Audit Committee and the Board, including assessment of the overall adequacy and effectiveness of risk management.
• Provide expert insight and challenge to senior leaders and risk owners across the business on risk exposures, emerging threats and response strategies.
• Define, maintain and communicate risk appetite and tolerance levels, ensuring they are clearly understood and integrated into strategic planning and operational decision-making.
• Collaborate across resilience, assurance, audit and compliance functions to drive integrated risk management.

Skills and Experience:

• Proven leadership in risk management, with significant experience in developing and embedding enterprise risk management frameworks.
• A strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate future risks and align them with business objectives.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage at Executive and senior management levels.
• Personal drive and initiative, with the ability to work at a fast pace and with a real appetite for progressing their career.
• Sound judgement, critical thinking, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Experience in critical infrastructure, operational environments, or technology sectors is a plus.
