Job description

Overview

Reporting to the Director, Business Management and Performance (Director BMP), the Head of Business Management Performance (Head of BMP) will lead the BMP’s business insights and project management office (PMO) function.This role will ensure the effective monitoring, reporting and assurance of project related activity, and the preparation and reporting of RSSB’s business performance.Leading the BMP analyst team and deputising for the Director BMP, the Head of BMP will oversee the day-to-day outputs of the directorate and ensuring a joined-up approach.

Driving continuous performance and process improvement are key elements of this role, which will include the automation of tasks, creating portfolio and programme overviews and upskilling the BMP team to improve their skillset in these areas.

Developing and managing relationships with key internal stakeholders will be integral to the role, particularly in delivering continuous improvement, for example working closely with the Digital team to enable self-service capability and carry out technical improvements ‘in-house’. This will also require working with the Finance team to integrate project and financial reporting to introduce greater integration and insight for the business.

Responsibilities
  • Lead RSSB’s business management function, which incorporates the oversight of all programmes and project delivery.
  • Ensuring high quality, accurate reporting for all RSSB projects. Alongside tracking all material changes against the Delivery Programme each period.
  • Organise and run the regular governance forums including the RSSB Investment Committee (RIC), Project and Programme Review Group (PRG) and the Strategic Delivery Group (SDG).
  • Assist the production of the Annual Business Plan, specifically by collecting and integrating data for managing delivery in the PPM tool.
  • Developing and mentoring, particularly the Analysts, to improve their digital and project skillsets. This will include, researching and delivering training, as and when required.
  • Accountable for automating manual tasks within the BMP to enable analysts to work on richer data insights. This involves leading and collaborating with the Digital team to co-create technical solutions aligned with BMP’s business priorities through data insights, task automation, and process streamlining.
  • Additionally, work with Finance to identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies across all areas, including project financial budgeting, reporting, and data management.
  • Accountable for the data stewardship of the BMP data marts, ensuring relevant, accurate and reliable data to support effective decision-making
  • Oversee the interface of RSSB’s waterfall and agile project methodologies. This involves collaborating with colleagues in Digital and Projects to develop and maintain processes and systems that support the efficient delivery of projects using both methodologies.
  • Control the project budgeting process, to ensure best quality, transparent information is available for decision making throughout the project lifecycle. Work closely with Finance colleagues to produce integrated project and corporate financial information.
  • Developing and overseeing planning and knowledge management for the BMP directorate.
  • Accountable for all BMP audit activity and ensuring the resulting actions are closed out.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of working in a similar role within a project environment.
  • Skilled in analysing data to create visualisations and automate processes.
  • Proficient in configuring MS Dynamics and creating Power BI reports.
  • Experience of using Power Automate to enhance process efficiency and minimise manual tasks.
  • Confident working with financial data, particularly in a project context.
  • Experience of managing a team and building a high performing team.
  • Communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience.
  • Adapt and respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty.
  • Ability to develop credible and long-lasting relationships with stakeholders.
