As demand grows for overhead line towers and substation structures, Balfour Beatty is expanding its Painter Brothers team to help power the nation's energy future. We’re seeking a dynamic Head of Business Improvement to lead transformative initiatives in a cutting-edge manufacturing environment where innovation drives purpose.

Following a £3 million investment in advanced technologies - including high-definition plasma cutters, fibre laser machines, and sophisticated steel processing systems - this is a unique opportunity to shape the next chapter of our operational excellence!

What you’ll be doing

As Head of Business Improvement you will hold full accountability for the successful delivery of project management across long-term planning, risk management (IRIS), logistics coordination, and programme controls.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading change management and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Driving implementation of Lean processes
  • Acting as the strategic interface for the new factory build
  • Managing project action logs and ensuring alignment with delivery objectives
  • Holds periodic project reviews and ensures Digital Briefcase is updated
  • Prepare both internal/external reports and liaise with stakeholders
  • Coordinate cross discipline develop resource allocations plans in line with future requirements
  • Motivate the team and manage performance (PDRs), undertaking training and mentoring
  • Take a strategic view of subcontract package allocation and ensure contractual arrangements are in place
  • Ensure procurement plans are available and meet the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Ensure all work is undertaken with a view towards handover and certification
  • Awareness of budget, cost control and cost recovery, setting project targets in line with this
Who we’re looking for

The following skills and experience are required:

  • A proven track record of complex project delivery
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Commercially astute
  • The ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team
  • Able to undertake work in high pressure situations
  • A proven ability to lead a team
  • Good Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • A record of a solutions based approach to problem solving

The following qualifications are required:

  • Holds a formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management / construction or experience equivalent
  • Holds either the APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ
  • Holds CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
