Engineering Manager – Baggage

From £59,795 + £4,750 Flex Allowance + Up to 20% Bonus + Benefits

The Opportunity:

Are you our next Engineering Manager – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering team.

What's the role?

The core purpose of this role is to deliver a safe, efficient, and resilient Baggage System—one that manages the flow of baggage within the airport, ensuring high levels of safety, reliability, and availability for Gatwick's critical infrastructure.

This role requires strong leadership of the maintenance team and effective management of third-party providers and stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

1. Lead and develop the Baggage Engineering team of highly skilled technicians to deliver the maintenance plan.
2. Ensure optimal performance of the baggage asset base, including performance improvements to enhance system availability against OBP / CSS metrics.
3. Drive EH&S culture across all teams to reduce incidents and promote a safe working environment.
4. Produce effective communication and reports for stakeholders such as GAL teams, airlines, and handling agents to enable smooth operations.
5. Manage costs and contracts to ensure operational budget adherence.

Do you have what we're looking for?

• Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline; HND level with significant experience accepted.
• Proven proactive leadership to promote health and safety culture, ensuring processes and procedures protect employees and contractors.
• Experience leading, managing, and developing baggage teams to deliver against Gatwick's strategic priorities.
• Ensure system performance meets or exceeds OBP and CSS measures.
• Lead failure investigations to determine root causes related to baggage system and operational impacts.
