Job overview

This role is responsible for the leadership and provision of a comprehensive, professional and effective Audiology service. Overall supervision of all staff in the department. Overall responsibility for the departmental budget and strategy development.

Main duties of the job

Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information and deliver formal presentations

Communicates service-related information to senior managers, staff and external agencies.

Ability to motivate patients and others through effective communication skills and to gain co-operation where there may be significant barriers to understanding.

Knowledge and experience of dealing with highly complex situations and the ability to analyse and interpret and produce solutions to these.

Extensive Post Graduate knowledge and experience of the full range of audiological and vestibular tests, for all groups and abilities of patients.

Have an extensive knowledge of hearing aids, evidence to support this, and use this knowledge to provide an effective service to patients.

Contribute to delivery of regular KPI and other reporting.

Management of workforce and planning of complex activities within the department.

Development of the service and business strategies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Communication and Relationship Skills - (Factor 1)

·Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information and deliver formal presentations

2. Analytical and Judgmental Skill - (Factor 3)

·Knowledge and experience of dealing with highly complex situations and the ability to analyse and interpret and produce solutions to these.

·Extensive Post Graduate knowledge and experience of the full range of audiological and vestibular tests, for all groups and abilities of patients.

·Have an extensive knowledge of hearing aids, evidence to support this, and use this knowledge to provide an effective service to patients.

3. Planning and Organisational Skills - (Factor 4)

4. Patient / Client Care - (Factor 6)

5. Policy and Service Development Implementation - (Factor 7)

·Responsible for proposing & implementing departmental policies in clinical, process and financial domains.

·Oversee and manage departmental audits.

·Management of data collection and implementation of national and local waiting list protocols and targets.

6. Financial and Physical Development (inc equipment, stock etc) - (Factor 8)

  • Manage the procurement and monitoring of physical assets, stocks and supplies.

7. Human Resources (inc developing and delivering training) - (Factor 9)

  • Responsible for the effective daily line Management of staff, including recruitment, career development, performance and work evaluation.
  • Responsible for the retention of professional and clerical staff and department succession planning.
  • Oversee and organise relevant courses both in-house and/or external in line with service delivery and PDP.
  • Communicating and cascading Trust policies and developments.

8. Information Resources - (Factor 10)

  • Monitoring to ensure compliance with the Trust’s Information Governance Policy and the Trust’s Patient’s Notes Policy.
  • In depth knowledge of Auditbase Patient Management System to record all patient information.

9. Research and Development - (Factor 11)

·Manage and oversee Research and Development for the department.

  • Manage, review and develop service provision.
  • Manage, analyse and interpret departmental audits.

Learning and Development

·Attend mandatory training updates as required.

·Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process.

·Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.

·Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager

·Participate in the Trust’s appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service.
