Job summary

A Salisbury academy is seeking a creative, inspiring Head of Art & Design to lead its Visual Arts faculty on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.

You will oversee Fine Art, Graphic Communication, 3D Design, and Photography, guiding students through project research, skill development, contextual studies, and public exhibitions.

Role includes strategic leadership, room management, NEA moderation, and line-management of teachers and technicians within KS3–KS5.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK credentials with an honours degree in Fine Art or Visual Arts.
• Strong personal artistic portfolio and demonstrated success in GCSE/ A-Level Art outcomes.
• Prior leadership or subject coordination experience in a secondary setting.
• Active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

Responsibilities

• Provide artistic vision, curriculum mapping, and operational management for the Art department.
• Teach practical studio and theoretical Art lessons across Key Stage 3, 4, and 5.
• Manage studio environments, printmaking presses, ceramic kilns, digital darkrooms, and supply budgets.
• Oversee GCSE and A-Level portfolio curation, NEA moderation, and external exam board submissions.
• Organize annual student art exhibitions, gallery visits, and artist-in-residence workshops.
• Line-manage department teachers and art technicians.
