Job description

Barclays Chief Technology Office is hiring a Head of Architecture and Engineering for Wholesale Onboarding and Financial Crime.

The candidate will work in a cross-cutting role with the FinCrime and Wholesale Onboarding (TC01) CIO, solution architects, delivery leads, and lead engineers to deliver outcomes driven by an architecture and engineering first mindset.

Key outcomes of the role include:

  • Leading Solution Architects for the domains, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Managing architecture and delivery with an engineering first mindset.
  • Ensuring target and interim architectures for TC01 are well understood, deliverable, meet Group standards, and are developed in partnership with the CIO.
  • Considering and evolving architecture impacts beyond TC01 domains in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Leading and evolving the architecture governance framework in line with Group standards.
  • Working with engineering leads to define standard patterns and cross-cutting capabilities, assisting in their delivery.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies and industry trends, providing strategic recommendations to enhance TC01 capabilities.

Purpose of the role

To develop and evolve the bank's technology architecture through solutions, strategies, and execution plans aligned with business and technology objectives, including foundational platforms and products.

Accountabilities include:

  • Developing, evolving, and implementing the bank's technology architecture and strategies to support business and technology objectives.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including Enterprise Architecture teams and clients, to share knowledge and address technical needs.
  • Leading a diverse team of technologists, business, and operations teams to align strategies and standards.
  • Assessing new technologies to meet current and future business needs.
  • Balancing requirements related to compliance, governance, security, and funding while maintaining a strong understanding of underlying technologies.
  • Monitoring application performance, resiliency, and stability, and resolving issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and staying informed about industry developments.
  • Mentoring community initiatives to share knowledge and streamline operations.

Director Expectations

  • Managing a business function, contributing to strategic initiatives, and influencing policies and procedures.
  • Leading a large team or projects, acting as a technical expert and thought leader, and coaching less experienced staff.
  • Providing strategic advice to senior management and committees.
  • Managing resourcing, budgeting, and policy creation for a sub-function.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and influencing external environment when appropriate.
  • Demonstrating extensive industry knowledge and strategic thinking.
  • Making significant decisions and influencing stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Acting as a principal contact for key clients and representing the function externally.
