Summary:
Information Technology has a global footprint operating across London, Asia (Shanghai, Singapore), and New York. IT comprises of 5 core areas namely Global Markets IT (FICE & Commodities/Operations/Market Services Technology), Global Production Services, Business Management, Control IT/ Tech Risk IT and Finance and Risk IT.

Job Purpose:
The Head of Application Development (L3) is responsible for the Data, Digital and Innovation (DDI) Frontend and Backend development teams, reporting directly to the Head of DDI. The Head of Engineering Practices drives the vision, design, strategy, and implementation of integrated systems to support the business. The Head of Engineering leads development teams and collaborates with other departments to roll out new systems and improve existing ones.

The Head of Engineering keeps up with new technologies, identifies suitable schemas for development, and promotes best organizational practices. This leader handles high-level challenges, balancing quality software with speed. Responsibilities include feature deployment, maintaining platform stability, and ensuring high-quality web architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide strategic and technical guidance, establish best practices, standards, and guidelines.
  • Process Improvement: Enhance development processes, methodologies, and tools, collaborating across teams.
  • Agile Transformation: Promote Agile practices, coaching teams in Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
  • Quality Assurance and Testing: Oversee testing, automation, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
  • Technical Excellence: Foster innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning.
  • Collaboration: Work with product managers and stakeholders to align engineering with business goals.
  • Talent Development: Nurture engineering talent, identify skill gaps, and support career growth.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate technical risks, ensure security and compliance.
  • Vendor Management: Collaborate with external vendors for tools and services.
  • Metrics and Reporting: Define KPIs, report on code quality, delivery, and productivity.
  • DevOPS Tooling team (IT Wide): Oversee support and maintenance of developer tooling.
  • Governance (IT Wide): Manage DevOPS and Engineering Governance processes, ensuring strategic alignment.

Required Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Values:
