Are you an experienced leader in trade and investment with a passion for promoting the UK’s financial and professional services sector internationally?

A prestigious public sector organisation is currently recruiting a permanent Head of Advanced Markets to drive strategic engagement across priority markets, ensuring impactful trade and investment outcomes.

About the Role

As the Head of Advanced Markets, you will lead the development and delivery of country plans, market strategies, and projects within key regions including Europe, US, Japan, Canada, Australia, and Singapore, as well as engagement across UK nations and regions.

You will oversee strategic partnerships, investment initiatives, and policy alignment to enhance the UK’s competitiveness.

You will have 5 direct reports so demonstrable leadership experience would be essential. Their hybrid policy is 3 days office attendance per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop outcome-focused market strategies and ensure effective implementation.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice on trade policy, investment risks, and market opportunities.
  • Lead engagement with UK government agencies, overseas posts, and key financial stakeholders.
  • Drive the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and trade project, ensuring measurable outcomes.
  • Manage relationships with senior industry figures, regulators, and government bodies to promote UK financial and professional services abroad.
  • Collaborate with the US and Brussels offices, ensuring alignment in trade policy and promotion.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of Advisors and Senior Advisors, overseeing trade and investment pipelines.
  • Ensure the delivery of quality market insights, promotional campaigns, and engagement strategies.
  • Provide briefings and reports to senior elected officials
  • Drive cross-market intelligence gathering to enhance strategic planning.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced senior leader with a proven track record in trade promotion, investment strategy, and stakeholder engagement.

Experience Required

  • Extensive experience in international trade and investment within financial and professional services.
  • Strong background in policy development, strategy creation, and trade promotion.
  • Ability to influence, negotiate, and engage senior government and industry leaders.
  • Experience in complex change management, building partnerships, and leading impactful trade missions.
  • Demonstrated ability in market intelligence gathering, business development, and trade policy advocacy.
  • Familiarity with one or more priority Advanced Markets (Europe, US, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore).
  • Proven leadership skills, managing teams, budgets, and long-term strategic projects.

  • Expertise in operating model design, business case development, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong ability to assess risks, communicate insights, and drive commercial opportunities.
