Salary: GBP 40,000 - GBP 44,000 per annum, dependent on experience

The Role


As the Head of Academic Services, you will oversee all aspects of the academic department, ensuring smooth operations and fostering an effective, positive learning environment. This role involves direct line management of the Academic Services and Student Services teams, as well as collaboration with other departments to uphold academic and organisational standards. Reporting to Senior Management, you will play a crucial role in formulating reports, monitoring performance metrics, and implementing academic policies to meet organisational objectives.


This is a senior leadership role requiring previous experience in a comparable management position within an academic setting, with extensive knowledge of Higher Education regulatory frameworks, policies, and procedures.


The Head of Academic Services is responsible for managing, developing, and strengthening the organisation's academic and student support services, quality assurance, and enhancement. The role involves acting as the expert in academic standards, oversight, programme management, student services, and academic quality and compliance, undertaking senior responsibilities in the organisation's daily operations.


This role focuses on driving student success.


Key Responsibilities


Academic Management


  1. Oversee the academic management of all activities, including curriculum delivery, student assessment, and adherence to academic standards.
  2. Monitor delivery and assessment to ensure quality teaching and compliance with academic guidelines.
  3. Coordinate with relevant teams to collect course progression reports and generate regular reports on student performance.
  4. Prepare monthly reports for the Director of Training, highlighting staff and student performance per cohort.

Team Management


  1. Lead, motivate, and develop staff by setting clear objectives and managing performance to ensure high standards.
  2. Address staff queries related to academic operations and student services, fostering collaboration.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting


  1. Regularly monitor performance indicators such as retention, progression, and academic standards.
  2. Develop monthly departmental performance reports for Senior Management, highlighting achievements and areas for improvement.

Skills and Qualifications


  1. Degree in education, business administration, or related field; substantial experience in the higher education sector.
  2. Proven experience in educational management, preferably in a similar role.
  3. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  4. Track record of translating strategic plans into operational practice.
  5. Strategic thinking and ability to work both consultatively and efficiently.
  6. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  7. Sound knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
