Job description

This position is for a part time or fulltime Head Lifeguard. Employees enjoy FREE use of the facilities at all branches, including our outdoor pools, gym, and wellness center. Program discounts include FREE use of Child Watch up to 3 hours per day or Camp/School-Aged Child Care for your own children while you're working, and discounts on programs and lessons. Full-time and Regular Part-time Employees accrue PTO after their first month and receive free membership for their family!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist Program Director and/or Coordinator with coordinating aquatic programs and pool schedule, and scheduling lifeguards.
  2. Assist in training new staff with all policies and procedures.
  3. Compile program statistics and records.
  4. Assist in ordering supplies as needed.
  5. Assist with Special Events and scheduled groups.
  6. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  7. Maintain a safe environment for the patrons utilizing the pool facility.
  8. Performs periodic drop drills and records outcomes to assess staff skills.
  9. Records aquatic quick check data to provide feedback to lifeguards and Program Director.
  10. Participates in aquatic staff meetings and/or related meetings that are required on the branch and association level.
  11. Supports and assists the Directors as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or general educational development certificate required.
  • Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, and an American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • At least 3 years aquatic experience and related program activities.
  • One year supervisory experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard.
  • Hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility.
  • May regularly work in an outside environment and exposed to the elements.
  • May have exposure to pool chemicals.
  • Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.
  • Employee must be able to communicate effectively by speaking and listening in a loud environment.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum age of 15.
  • Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
