Job summary

Foxhills Collection in Ottershaw, Surrey, invites applications for a Head Gardener to lead our gardening team and oversee grounds management across our luxury estate.

You will design and implement garden plans, supervise seasonal lawn care, monitor plant health, manage budgets, and collaborate with hotel and guest services to maintain the highest standards while ensuring safety and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Minimum RHS Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture.
• Experience in a supervisory role and/or extensive gardening experience with a proven track record.
• Strong leadership and management skills to motivate a team.
• In-depth knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees, and their care.
• Excellent organizational and planning abilities; manage multiple projects.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks.
• Relevant horticulture or landscaping qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the gardening team in grounds maintenance and enhancement.
• Implement seasonal lawn care plans.
• Perform monthly woodland checks and reactive works as needed.
• Develop and implement garden design plans that are aesthetically pleasing and sustainable.
• Monitor plant health and apply pest/disease controls.
• Oversee operation and maintenance of gardening equipment and safety.
• Manage the gardening budget for plants, tools and supplies.
• Collaborate with other departments to meet guest and member needs.
• Liaise with departments to minimize disruption to members.
• Proactively respond to department and member needs.
• Ensure health and safety requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the gardening team in the maintenance and enhancement of the grounds, including planting, pruning, weeding, and watering
• Implementing seasonal lawn care plans
• Perform monthly woodland checks and any reactive works needed
• Develop and implement garden design plans, ensuring that they are aesthetically pleasing, sustainable, and reflective of the property's overall vision
• Monitor plant health and implement pest and disease control measures as needed
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of gardening equipment, ensuring that it is properly maintained and used safely
• Manage the gardening budget, including purchasing plants, tools, and supplies, and ensuring that expenses are kept within budgetary constraints
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure that the grounds are maintained to the highest standards and meet the needs of guests and visitors
• Liaise with other departments to ensure minimal disruption to members
• Take a proactive approach whilst reacting to department and member needs
• Ensure all health and safety requirements for the department are met

Requirements

• Minimum RHS level two in Amenity Horticulture
• Previous experience in a supervisory position and/or extensive experience in gardening or horticulture, with a proven track record of success in managing large-scale gardening projects
• Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team
• In-depth knowledge of plants, shrubs, and trees, and their care and maintenance requirements
• Excellent organizational and planning abilities, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Flexibility to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks
• Relevant certifications or qualifications in horticulture or landscaping preferred
