Job summary

Barchester Healthcare is seeking a Head Chef to lead and inspire a kitchen team within our care homes. You will design menus tailored to residents, prepare fresh, nutritious dishes, and uphold hotel/restaurant standards without long shifts.

Chefs in our academy are supported to learn new techniques, share knowledge, and develop skills through ongoing training and industry recognised apprenticeships across the business.

Qualifications

• Personable and warm approach focused on resident wellbeing.
• Holds City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent.
• Experience leading, motivating and inspiring a team.
• Experience with fresh seasonal food and nutrition.
• Ability to create a warm, welcoming home environment.
• Confident engaging with residents to create appetising menus.
• Experience coordinating front of house to high standards.
• Good understanding of HACCP and COSHH.
• Knowledge of modified diets using the IDDSI framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and inspire a team, developing and upskilling where required.
• Menu development, tailoring around residents to deliver person-centred hospitality.
• Work with fresh produce to deliver high quality, wholesome dishes.
• Bake fresh cakes, scones and breads from scratch.
• Assist front of house with dining area set up.
• Work within budget, perform audits and stock control.
• Create a warm, efficient and fun environment.
• Ongoing recruitment and retention.
• Manage performance of kitchen and front of house teams.
