Job summary

Sodexo in Leicestershire is seeking a Head Chef to elevate daily meals for pupils and staff, driving quality, nutrition, and service excellence across the school’s catering operation.

You will lead the catering team, plan menus balancing taste, cost, and health, manage stock and supplier orders, and ensure strong food safety standards.

NVQ Level 2 in Food Production and a Food Hygiene certificate are required, with proven leadership in fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Food Production and Food Hygiene certificate are required.
• Proven experience as a chef in busy, customer-facing environments.
• Strong leadership and ability to manage a team.
• Excellent communication and teamwork.
• Solid organisational, time management and financial awareness.
• Ability to work under pressure and maintain high standards.

Responsibilities

• Support the Catering Manager in daily kitchen operations.
• Lead and inspire the catering team with training and direction.
• Plan menus balancing quality, nutrition and cost.
• Manage stock, food costs, margins and supplier orders.
• Oversee food preparation, service and kitchen cleanliness.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, allergens, and health & safety.
• Maintain high food quality and adapt menus to customer needs.
• Deliver efficient, timely service across catering areas.

What We’re Looking For

• Financial awareness with good literacy and numeracy
