Were currently recruiting for an experienced Head Chef to lead the kitchen of a respected independent gastro pub in West Bergholt, just outside Colchester. This is a fantastic opportunity for a chef with a minimum of two years' experience in a similar leadership role, who is passionate about fresh, seasonal cooking and delivering a consistent, high-quality dining experience.
As Head Chef, you'll be responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen from planning and delivering inspiring menus, to maintaining excellent standards of food safety and team performance. Youll have the opportunity to shape the menu using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and work closely with the management team to ensure smooth and efficient service.

Our client is an independent, well-established gastro pub with a loyal local following. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and commitment to quality, the venue is situated in a scenic village location and prides itself on offering a menu that highlights seasonal and locally sourced produce. The team is professional yet down-to-earth, with a strong culture of collaboration between kitchen and front-of-house.
40 hours per week
5 working days, 2 consecutive days off
Stable rota with a genuine commitment to work-life balance
3-month probation period at £36,000, then £35,000 + tips (OTE £38,000)
Overseeing daily kitchen operations and team performance
Designing and delivering seasonal menus
Managing stock, orders, and supplier relationships
Ensuring compliance with all food hygiene and safety regulations
Training and mentoring junior staff
Maintaining high standards of presentation and consistency
At least 2 years experience in a Head Chef role
Relevant culinary qualifications and up-to-date food hygiene certification
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Confidence in working with fresh, seasonal ingredients
Ability to manage budgets, waste, and costings effectively
